SSC CGL Eligibility

Nationality

The candidate must be a citizen of India. Subjects of Nepal or Bhutan, and Tibetan refugees meeting the prescribed conditions, are also eligible.

Educational qualification

Most posts require a Bachelor's degree in any discipline from a recognised university. A few posts carry their own additional requirements:

Junior Statistical Officer (JSO) Bachelor's degree with Statistics as a subject, or at least 60% in Mathematics in Class 12
Assistant Audit Officer / Assistant Accounts Officer Bachelor's degree; CA, CS, MBA, M.Com or Cost & Management Accountant is a desirable qualification
Statistical Investigator Grade-II Bachelor's degree with Statistics as one of the subjects
All other posts Bachelor's degree in any discipline

Age limit

The age limit varies by post — it is not the same across the examination. The usual bands are 18–27, 18–30, 20–30 and 18–32.

[[VERIFY]] — The cut-off date for calculating age changes with every year's notification, and so does the band applicable to each post. Always check the official notification for that year before applying.

Number of attempts

There is no limit on the number of attempts in SSC CGL. As long as you are within the age limit and meet the qualification, you may appear as many times as you wish.

Physical standards

Most posts have no physical requirements. However, posts such as Inspector (Central Excise / Examiner / Preventive Officer) and Sub-Inspector (CBI / NIA) prescribe standards for height, chest and physical endurance — these differ for male and female candidates.
