Exam pattern at a glance

PostQuestionsMaximum marksDurationStandard
Forester (Vanpal)1001002 hoursSenior Secondary (Class 12)
Forest Guard (Vanrakshak)1001002 hoursSecondary (Class 10)

Points stated in the notification:

  • All questions in the paper are objective (multiple choice) and carry equal marks.
  • Negative marking : one-third (1/3) of the marks allotted to a question is deducted for a wrong answer.

Two posts, one paper structure — but different standards

Both posts have the same shape of paper: 100 questions, 100 marks, 2 hours. The difference is the level at which questions are set.

  • Forester — questions are at Senior Secondary (Class 12) level.
  • Forest Guard — questions are at Secondary (Class 10) level.

The subject list is the same for both; only the depth changes.

How selection works

This is worth knowing before you plan your preparation:

  • Only the written examination marks count for final selection. Marks from the physical test do not add to your score.
  • Candidates called for physical suitability and the Physical Efficiency Test / trade test are limited to five times the number of vacancies in each category — Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, Backward Classes, More Backward Classes, Economically Weaker Sections and Unreserved.
  • Candidates scoring the same marks as the last candidate on that category's shortlist are also called for the physical test.
  • Any candidate, of any category, who scores equal to or more than the last candidate on the unreserved shortlist is also placed on the shortlist for this testing.
